for the 2nd Annual TEDxFaurotPark.
One of the primary differentiators between human beings and all other living creatures, is that we are consistently outdoing ourselves creatively. With the theme being “Humanity,” every piece of the identity calls back to the dynamic and ever-changing expression of human creativity.
Dynamic Creativity
I looked at hundreds of references* throughout time depicting the human form throughout art, comics, film, athletics, etc. in order to fully understand the human form throughout time.
Using abstract gestural sketches made from tempera, I sought to describe the visual history of the human form and the range in its emotional and physical qualities.
The Wordmark
Referencing phonetic typography in written language, the wordmark expresses the non-linear nature of human progress.

Arrows & Olive Branches
Inspired by the United States presidential seal, the font that the identity is built with, Redaction, expresses this same sentiment specifically targeting “the extremes of the legal system” in the United States.
It was important that we integrate the duality of mankind within the identity system. Bringing the two halves of the whole together as a single unit. Creativity filtered through bureaucracy and capitalism.
Distorted Histories
The identity contrasts the organic textured figures with the sharp edges of a smartphone or TV screen describing the duality of human-kind. We read about an event that happened hundreds of years ago after it has been filtered through the powers that be, softened by status quo, and destroyed by political agendas.
As we stray further from our ancestors, we attempt to pass on their knowledge and build upon it. During this process, the origin is filtered through pixels on a screen and human bias. Original intention gets lost in our own egos and self interests. A copy of a copy of a copy.
